| exhibition Vienna Café 1900
Visiting the cafés of Vienna during the early 1900s was a spectacular experience. The café was a luxurious haven of glittering mirrors, polished surfaces and attentive service. It is not surprising that they became a beloved part of the city. The exhibition offers a chance to explore the world of the Viennese café, from the exquisite design of the interiors to the activities of the people who met there. Old photographs, drawings and paintings are used to bring this corner of the past to life.
Curator of the exhibition:
Charlotte Ashby gained her PhD in Art History from the University of St Andrews in 2007. She has been the postdoctoral research fellow on the Vienna Café Project for its duration. She is the co-editor of "The Viennese Café and Fin-de-siècle Culture", which will be published by Berghahn Books in 2010.
The exhibition will run through April 30, 2010.
